Happy Mid Autumn Festival everyone! Weee~ This September is
full of festival! There’s Malaysia Day, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and what’s
more? Me and my brother’s birthday! ( LOL! As if our birthday is a real big
deal~ ) And more festival means? More excuses of celebration! Haha!
And thanks to Malaysia Day, I was able to spend my and my
brother’s birthday back at my hometown with my family.
We had our birthday dinner at Dynasty, Renaissance Hotel,
Kota Bharu, one of the renowned fine dining restaurants in town. The restaurant
offers authentic Oriental and Fusion Chinese cuisine, where all food items are
certified Halal.
Executive Chef Mike in his kitchen, the genuine creator
behind all these scrumptious delicacies.
Upon arrival, we are ushered to a table of twelve in the middle of the
exquisitely posh restaurant while admiring the traditional Chinese ornaments,
paintings and deco along the walkway.
We were also told that there will
be a Life La Mien Performance by a chef from Bei Jing during lunch and dinner
session from from 11th – 23rd September.
The guests reached not long after and the night’s rendezvous
was complimented with a glass of champagne.
BRUT MILLESIME 1999, Laurent-Perrier
They gave us the white wine glass instead of the champagne
class because the glasses they had were used as ‘dessert in cup’ at Palm
Terrence’s dinner buffet (1st floor). *hit forehead*
The young Bei Jing chef deliberately prepared the La Mien
for us.
Our delightful gastronomy journey began with the Five
Happiness Platters.
Chuka Idako Song Tam
An interesting medley combination of Thai and Japanese appetizer that managed to zest up our appetite.
Deep Fried Salad Prawn
Deep Fried Crispy Sishamo Fish
The one that stood out the most was actually the crispy potato skin beneath the fish. It was drenched in the tangy sweet chili sauce that catered the dash of sweetness and spiciness. The sauce infused into the deep fried potato skin and successfully gave it a twist of flavour. Yummy!
Marinated Honey Soy Chicken Wings
The meat was tenderly roasted and it would be even sinfully tantalizing if it was eaten with its sweetened moist skin.
Scramble Egg with Shark Fin
Next up was Double Boiled Whole Shark Fin and Dried Scallop in Superior Stock.
The thick broth was undeniably flavoursome, but it was a tad
too salty for my liking.
Our Thick La Mien (Hand Pulled Noodles) in Seafood Soup arrived with bountiful amount of seafood.
The noodles weren’t really springy, a little on the firm
part. Perhaps, al dente I would describe?
(LOL! As if I’m having Italian pasta~)
The soup on the other hand is a little lacked of oomph, too
mild for our palate.
Nyonya Style Curry Shark with Homemade Man Tou (Bread)
It was delicious! The Nyonya curry was cooked splendidly and
with just the right proportion – tangy but not too spicy. The shark meat was super
fresh as well as mouthwatering and by just dipping the delicate bread into the
robust gravy was already enough an ecstasy.
Stir Fried Marmite Huge Mud Crab
The dish had absolutely caught our eyes. Everyone didn’t
expect to see these giant mud crabs and was curious of how Chef Mike was able
to get these huge crabs as it was hardly possible to find crabs in Kota Bharu
during the season due to the supply issue in the market.
An applause to the chef *clap clap clap*! The mud crabs were
deliberately cooked till perfection. The marmite sauce didn’t overwhelm the
crabs while the originality freshness and sweetness of the crabs were totally
retained. Another plus point was that the luxurious, rich meat could easily be
separated with the shell. In fact, the shell was so delicate that one could
effortlessly separate the flesh and the shell within the mouth! Believe me, I'm not exaggerating anything! The dish was
finger licking marvelous and truly a bliss for ardent crustacean lovers like us.
After a pleasant crustacean feast, we were served with Braised Galore Seafood Treasure in Claypot.
The
dish is a myriad of delighting sumptuous ingredient, such as fish maw, sea cucumber,
abalone slice, cuttlefish, squid, and assorted vegetables – drooling and
comforting.
Steamed Huge Fresh Water Prawn with Egg White and Dried Scallop
The velvety egg white merged really well with the succulent
prawn. We enjoyed it immensely.
Homemade Beancurd Custurd with Pumpkin Puree
According to the chef, the beancurd custard was steamed for
a long period of time until smooth. It had a wobbly and creamy texture while
the pumpkin puree added a unique aroma to the dish.
Fried Mee Hoon with Roasted Duck Meat was
full of ‘wok hei’, delectably delicious.
The laden of the duck meat on the other hand was really tender and enticing, giving a plus point to the noodles.
At last, the milky rich yet refreshing Golden Fantasy with Mango and Sago Pearl dessert put
the elegant dinner a sweet endnote.
After everyone was almost done with their chilled dessert,
the light was suddenly dimmed and a birthday song was played (apparently we
were the only one left at the dining hall~hihihi!).
The waitress presented a cake with candle on top upon the table.
Everyone sang us birthday songs of several languages (English, Chinese,
Cantonese). Then, we made our wishes secretly in our hearts and blew off the candles.
Marble Cheese Cake from Lobby Lounge
It was slightly on the dry side, nevertheless, it was still acceptable.
However for this price, I would rather go for the cheaper Secret Recipe instead. *Ops!*

The premier dining celebration lasted for 4 hours with
chitchats, laughter, wines and delicacies. The overall food were superb and everyone enjoyed thoroughly throughout the entire dinner session. All of us went back with a brimmed tummy and satisfied smile on the face. We were absolutely glad about that. :)
Seems like Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner.
Mooncake anyone? LOL!
